Why Should You Have Your Chimney & Fireplace Inspected?
Did you know that a properly built and cared for masonry chimney can last anywhere from 50 to 100 years? That said, in order to get this longevity, chimney maintenance is an important investment.
A chimney inspection is the evaluation of your heating system and venting components in order to assess its condition and determine whether or not it’s safe to use. When you hire our sister company, Chimney Concepts, for this annual service, rest assured we will check for any structural issues, obstructions, damage, and creosote buildup.
And aside from your yearly inspection that is recommended by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), there are a few instances when additional inspections are required. This includes:
- You’re making a change to your system. Have you recently upgraded to a new insert from our fireplace showroom? Schedule an inspection before putting it to use.
- You’re having problems or have noticed a change. Are you between inspections, but notice some performance issues? Play it safe – book something with an expert.
- You’ve had a chimney fire, severe weather, or other significant event. Any outside that could have damaged your chimney system warrants the need for an overview.
- You’re moving into a new home. A level 2 inspection should be performed by a chimney technician any time property is transferred.
Depending on the situation, there are 3 levels of inspections that may be recommended.
- Level 1: This is the very minimum requirement and most common inspection.
- Level 2: Schedule this if you have recently experienced severe weather such as a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, or change in fuel source. You should also book this if you’ve moved into a new home.
- Level 3: This level of inspection normally occurs when a serious problem has been identified and the only way to get to the bottom of it is to tear apart the chimney or the surrounding wall.
In general, the higher the level of inspection, the more detailed the inspection will be. Whether you need a level 1, level 2, or level 3 inspection, our sister company – Chimney Concepts – is happy to help!
The turn around time was as expected for a few weeks but came just in time to use it for February.
I have been heating the house on only firewood since!
Would highly recommend checking this place out of you want to improve the efficiency of your fireplace.
