- Days relaxing at Lake Winnebago: Chilton is located near Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin’s largest inland lake, which offers opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and other water-related activities.
- Plenty of hiking and biking opportunities: The Chilton area offers various trails and rural roads that are perfect for hiking and biking, such as the nearby Friendship State Trail and Fox River State Trail.

Gas, Wood, Pellet, or Electric: Which Fuel Is Right for Me?
It’s a common question – which fireplace fuel is best? Unfortunately, the answer isn’t a simple one. There really isn’t a “best” fuel to use in your fireplace, stove, or insert…it’s more about what’s best for you. You’ll want to consider several factors, including your heating needs, your lifestyle, and your budget. Here’s a breakdown of each fuel type we offer:
Gas
Gas heating systems are popular for their convenience and efficiency, providing lots of heat with the push of a button. There will be no need to chop wood or clean up ashes, and you’ll get steady, controllable heat output – that’s hard to top. You can also expect minimal maintenance requirements and a clean burn.
The downside is that gas systems won’t give that traditional vibe many come to expect from a fireplace. While modern options do a pretty good job of imitating the “real thing,” you won’t get that same crackle and pop – or those classic wood-burning smells – that you’d get from a wood system.
Wood
Wood-burning systems are ideal for those who love the traditional feel and smell of a classic fireplace. Let’s face it – the ambiance of a real wood-burning fire is unmatched. Wood options are also great for those in rural areas or in places prone to power outages, as they offer independence from the power grid.
Now, that all sounds idyllic, but remember that wood-heating appliances require a lot of maintenance – think regular scooping of ash, sweeping up wood chips, storing wood piles, and having a professional regularly attend to creosote-filled chimneys. You also have to ensure the wood you use is always well-seasoned. That said, if all that sounds like it wouldn’t be a problem (or something you might enjoy), wood fireplaces can be really great!
Pellet
Pellet stoves and inserts offer a nice middle ground option between wood and gas. They burn compressed wood or biomass pellets, offering high levels of efficiency and easy operation (like gas), while still allowing for that classic wood-style ambiance. Just store the pellets somewhere safe, load the hopper as you need to, and enjoy! As an added bonus, pellets are made from renewable resources and produce fewer emissions than traditional wood-burning appliances.
Now, they do require regular cleaning, though less than a wood stove, and the hopper needs to be refilled periodically. So, you will have some maintenance, just not as much as you would with a more classic wood log option. In addition, pellet hoppers need to be hooked up to electricity, so don’t plan on depending on this fuel type in a power outage.
Electric
Electric fireplaces, stoves, and inserts are, by far, the most convenient to use – and they’re typically the easiest to install too. Just plug it in and enjoy…no need for ventilation or fuel storage, and, since they don’t require a chimney or venting system, you have the freedom to put them pretty much anywhere they fit (as long as an outlet is close by). Oh – and no open flames makes them a safer option, especially in homes with children or pets.
The obvious con to an electric option is a lack of authenticity. Even gas systems are made to look like a real wood fire nowadays, and while electric systems can offer a decent illusion, it won’t be the same as having actual wood or gas flames burning in your hearth. That said, it’s still very cozy!
So, what do you value most? Convenience? Authenticity? Flexibility? A mix of a few of those? Whatever your thinking, we want to hear you and help you find the best option for your needs and household. Reach out to our experts soon.
The turn around time was as expected for a few weeks but came just in time to use it for February.
I have been heating the house on only firewood since!
Would highly recommend checking this place out of you want to improve the efficiency of your fireplace.
